2019 NFL draft: Panthers meet with Ohio State DL prospect

The Carolina Panthers made strides towards solidifying their defensive line in free agency with the addition of Bruce Irvin, but they still need more help. Rich with defensive line talent, the 2019 NFL draft offers a number of excellent options that could help.

According to a report by Josh Norris at Rotoworld, the Panthers are hosting Ohio State defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones for a predraft visit on Tuesday.

Jones spent four seasons with the Buckeyes. He was red-shirted his first year, then showed flashes the next two before having a breakout 2018 season. Jones recorded 43 tackles (13 for a loss), 8.5 sacks, an interception and three fumble recoveries. At 6-foot-2 and 295 pounds, Jones is an agile rusher capable of getting to the quarterback. He is projected as a second-round pick.

The Panthers were ranked No. 27 in sacks this past season. Adding another capable interior rusher like Jones should help them improve in that area.
