2019 NFL draft: Packers select S Darnell Savage, Jr. No. 21 overall

The Packers traded up with the Seahawks to select safety Maryland Darnell Savage with the No. 21 overall selection of the 2019 NFL draft.

Green Bay lost HaHa Clinton-Dix to the Bears, so it was evident that they needed to find his replacement in the draft. Savage was a big riser throughout the pre-draft circuit, and the Packers didn’t hesitate to snag him.

Savage has the physicality, play speed, and instincts in the short and immediate game that best fits as a strong safety. But he does have the ability to play free safety and some slot corner. His physicality against the run will be coveted to play closer to the line of scrimmage on third down.
