There’s a lot of speculation surrounding where the Tennessee Titans will go with the No. 19 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
But the moves general manager Jon Robinson makes beyond the first round are equally important.
As the Titans prepare to make a second-round selection at pick No. 51, Ohio State defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones is a name to consider.
Jones could provide the Titans strength within the interior of the defensive line, and could be a key factor in keeping the pressure hot on opposing quarterbacks.
It’s expected he will take some time to develop, though, and won’t be an instant fit for just any team.
An in-depth analysis on Jones by The Draft Network’s Kyle Crabbs made note of this.
“Dre’Mont Jones projects as a rush specialist at the next level. Jones’ first step quickness and hand counters are elite skills that will lend themselves favorably to an impact role,” he wrote. “That said, it’s difficult to forecast an every down role for Jones, given his lack of anchor and issues in defending the run. Jones’ best bet for an every down role lies in going to a single gap penetration scheme. Not a one size fits all type of prospect and will require a specific vision.”
In his last season with the Buckeyes, Jones recorded 43 tackles, 8.5 sacks, one forced fumble, two passes defensed, one interception and one touchdown.
On his college career, Jones totals 114 tackles, 9.5 sacks, one forced fumble, four passes defensed, one interception and one touchdown.
