2019 NFL draft: Jets trade back with Titans, select West Virginia TE Trevon Wesco

After trading back 11 spots in the fourth round with the New Orleans Saints, Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan struck a deal with the Tennessee Titans to trade back once again.

Slated to pick No. 116 after the trade with New Orleans, the Jets moved down five picks to No. 121 and also landed the No. 157 pick in exchange for picks No. 116 and No. 168, which New York also acquired from the Saints.

With the No. 121 pick, the Jets bolstered their tight end corps with the selection of West Virginia’s Trevon Wesco.

The selection of Wesco gives New York a No. 2 tight end to supplement Chris Herndon. With Herndon facing a suspension to start the season, Wesco will likely factor heavily into the Jets’ offensive plans early in the year.

At 6-foot-3, 267 pounds, Wesco profiles as a blocking tight end next to Herndon. However, he can make an impact in the passing game as well. In 2018, Wesco caught 26 passes for 366 yards and a touchdown. He finished his collegiate career with 28 receptions, 373 yards and two touchdowns.

Wesco’s versatility will play in Adam Gase’s offense. With his ability to line up at tight end, out wide and at H-Back, New York will be able to deploy its newest offensive weapon in a variety of ways.
