2019 NFL draft: Jets strike deal with Vikings, trade up to select USC OT Chuma Edoga

Mike Maccagnan is back to his wheeling and dealing ways.

The Jets general manager struck a deal with the Minnesota Vikings to move up one spot from No. 92 to No. 93. New York will also send a seventh-round selection (No. 217 overall) to the Vikings.

With the No. 92 pick, New York selected USC offensive tackle Chuma Edoga, who protected Jets quarterback Sam Darnold in college.

A second-team All-Pac 12 selection last season, Edoga was a two-year starter at USC. As a freshman, he started two games at right tackle and appeared in 13 games before his season ended due to a wrist injury. Edoga played only nine games in 2016 due to injury and a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules, but bounced back as a junior, making 12 starts at right tackle.

At 6-foot-3, 308 pounds, Edoga has the athleticism to handle pass rushers off the edge. He still has some growing to do, but is currently equally adept as a run and pass blocker.
