The Jets selected Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams with the No. 3 overall selection of the 2019 NFL draft.
New York saw the best player in the draft slip to them after Kyler Murray and Nick Bosa went No. 1 and 2 overall to the Cardinals and 49ers.
Williams will be able to help New York not only push the pocket in the middle of the defensive line — and upgrade their pass rush — but he can also be a run-stopping asset for a unit that struggled to defend the run in the 2018 season.
Williams was the consensus All-America and Outland Trophy winner in 2018. He played two seasons for the Crimson Tide and wreaked havoc week in and week out. In 2018, he totaled eight sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss and 71 tackles in 15 games. For his career he had 10 sacks and 26 tackles for loss in 24 games.
