2019 NFL Draft: Is Iowa’s T.J. Hockenson worth the Titans’ first-round pick?

There are a few pressing needs that come to mind when considering what the Tennessee Titans should do with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

What probably doesn’t come to mind first is tight end. The Titans already have veteran Delanie Walker, in addition to younger talent behind him that all flashed potential during his absence in 2018.

But, the Titans still need a pass-catcher with the same type of reliability that Walker provides, and a rising Corey Davis may bring in the near future.

So while it may seem more reasonable top acquire a wideout first in the draft, could the Titans run with an equally promising tight end instead?

This is where Iowa’s T.J. Hockenson comes into play.

There’s a reason why ESPN’s Todd McShay mocked him to the Titans in his second mock, and why Turron Davenport made a case for Hockenson on Wednesday.

Hockenson would almost instantly become a factor in both the ground game and passing game, and has already drawn comparisons to well-known playmakers like the Patriots’ Ron Gronkowski.

“There are similarities,” Davenport wrote. “Hockenson, who is 6-foot-5 and 251 pounds, can make contested catches down the field as defenders bounce off of him.”

It will be interesting to see if Robinson and the Titans make the move when the clock officially begins ticking on Apr. 25.
