2019 NFL Draft: Defensive end Sutton Smith presents late option for Titans

The Tennessee Titans are expected to see some upgrades in 2019 with both free agency and the NFL Draft on the horizon.

In the latter event, the Titans will be looking to add young talent to both sides on the ball. A solid defensive option in the later rounds, NIU defensive end Sutton Smith could be the perfect pick for the Titans in the fifth round.

Originally recruited as a running back, the 6-foot-1, 237-pounder was switched over to defense due to the Huskies’ depth at the position.

Over 14 games for NIU, Smith has racked up 61 tackles including 26.5 for a loss, 15 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one pass defensed and a touchdown.

On his collegiate career, Smith has recorded 139 tackles including 58.5 for a loss, 30 sacks, seven forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, four passes defensed and three touchdowns.

Smith provides an interesting project for whoever picks him up. He can be utilized as both a factor within the pass rush and on special teams, or he can be an effective linebacker.

Regardless of how GM Jon Robinson and the Titans choose to go about it, expect the team to go for a defensive end with a late pick.
