2019 NFL Draft: Clemson defensive tackle could be a first-year starter for the Titans

With the 2019 NFL Draft just two weeks away, there’s plenty of speculation as to just where the Tennessee Titans will go with their first-round selection.

One the Titans’ podcast, former coach Dave McGinnis noted Christian Wilkins as a realistic and potentially highly effective player for the Titans at pick No. 19.

“Christian Wilkins is a guy that I think can play anywhere along the defensive front… he’s got quickness, body flexibility, he’s got awareness. I think he was a three-technique master,” he said.

He’s got a loose lower body, and what I mean by that in close close quarters you’ve got to have contact balance. He’s got that. He keeps his feet during contact, he’s got very active hands. He’s a little inconsistent… against the run but he’s got production on both sides of the line of scrimmage.”

McGinnis believes Wilkins will start his rookie year if general manager Jon Robinson and the Titans choose to bring him aboard.

“This guy’s a first year starter. He absolutely is.”

On his senior season at Clemson, the 6-foot-4, 300-pounder recorded 51 tackles, six sacks, one forced fumble and two passes defensed.

Over four years, Wilkins accumulated 192 tackles, 16 sacks, two forced fumbles and 12 passes defense.

It’ll be interesting to see if Wilkins is in the Titans’ plans when the draft kicks off on April 25.
