2019 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears select Kansas State CB Duke Shelley in 6th round

The Chicago Bears selected Kansas State cornerback Duke Shelley with their sixth-round pick, No. 205, of the 2019 NFL draft. The Bears received this selection from the New England Patriots in the trade to move up to the 73rd pick for RB David Montgomery.

Shelley appeared in seven games in 2018 (toe injury) and finished the year with 33 tackles and three interceptions, bringing his career totals to 165 tackles and eight interceptions over the last four years.

The Bears were expected to add help for the secondary in this year’s draft, and while some would’ve predicted a cornerback or safety with one of the team’s first two picks, Ryan Pace waited until this later portion of the draft for depth behind starters Prince Amukamara, Kyler Fuller and Buster Skrine.

Shelley wasn’t invited to the 2019 NFL combine but improved his draft stock after he ran a 4.46 at his pro day in March.
