2019 NFL draft: Chargers meeting with Duke QB Daniel Jones

The Chargers have gone five years without selecting a quarterback in the NFL draft. The last QB taken was Brad Sorensen in the seventh-round in 2013 — who didn’t exactly pan out that well in the league. Could 2019 mark the year that they end the drought and find quarterback Philip Rivers’ successor?

Los Angeles is meeting with former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones to take a magnifying glass to his talents before embarking on the 2019 NFL draft, which was confirmed during an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound quarterback wasn’t very productive last season, completing slightly over 60 percent of his passes for 2,674 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Jones missed one game from what would’ve been the inability to see the field for three weeks after a broken bone in his shoulder.

Jones has all of the natural abilities on his side. He has the size, great arm strength and overall athleticism. The former Blue Devil needs to sharpen a few things to his game, such as being a better with his ball placement, and becoming more consistent on throwing with anticipation.

General manager Tom Telesco made it known this week during media availability at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine that the team will consider all options when addressing the possibility of adding one this offseason, including draft, free agency or trade, according to ESPN’s Eric D. Williams.

Nothing is set and stone on whether or not they will draft one, so expect for them to do their homework and meet with various players at the position throughout the course of the week, like they’ve done in years past.
