2019 NFL draft: 4 Day 3 options for the New York Jets

The Jets enter Day 3 of the NFL draft with two picks, a fourth- and sixth-rounder.

New York traded its 2019 fifth-round in the Kelechi Osemele trade and parted with its seventh-round pick by trading up for Chuma Edoga on Day 2.

After failing to trade back in Round 1, the Jets stayed put at No. 3 and selected Alabama DT Quinnen Williams. New York was unable to recoup its second-rounder by trading up on Day 2 but stayed put and selected Jachai Polite. They also added Edoga via a trade up from the Teddy Bridgewater trade.

Now, let’s take a look at four Day 3 options for the Jets.

OL Lamont Gaillard, Georgia

The Jets badly need a center and Lamont Gaillard is the best one available on Day 3.

A three-year starter and team captain, Gaillard has a tough as nails mentality and would be a bully on the offensive line for years to come. Gaillard won’t always look pretty, but his tape against Alabama and possible future teammate Quinnen Williams shows that he’s capable of becoming an eventual starter sometime soon.

WR Riley Ridley, Georgia

Riley Ridley is another prospect who’s tape speaks for itself even though he tested poorly, like Jachai Polite.

Ridley is a physical possession receiver and a strong route runner. He is not overly fast but can win his routes with his outright speed and physicality.

Based on his traits, Ridley should be a much better pro than his college statistics indicate.

CB Amani Oruwariye, Penn State

The Jets have done a lot of homework on Amani Oruwariye.

In Oruwariye there may be a first-round talent, as he has incredible awareness and can be a playmaker for the Jets secondary, which needs depth. Oruwariye would battle Darryl Roberts for the outside No. 2 cornerback position.

The only gripe may be that he is not a tackler, but the Jets aren’t drafting him for his ability to tackle. Oruwariye would be a steal on Day 3.

CB Jimmy Moreland, James Madison

Another cornerback, it’s obvious where the Jets needs stand.

Jimmy Moreland is an undersized outside corner but plays physical. Moreland is a ball-hawking playmaker who returned six of his 18 career interceptions at James Madison into touchdowns.

Moreland’s ball skills and toughness give him a chance at sticking.
