As expected, the opening days of the combine have provided Jacksonville Jaguars fans with some exciting news as the team’s front office has been scouting for talent to add from the upcoming draft, and keeping tabs on their current roster. That said, with more to come this weekend, here’s a detailed roundup of what we’ve heard so far from the Jags’ camp:
Friday’s tidbits
- Dwayne Haskins revealed that he met with the Jags Wednesday alongside the Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints. He told the media that Jags personnel executive Tom Coughlin was involved in the meeting and pressed him on his character and leadership ability. Overall, Haskins says the interview involved a “great conversation” so it will be interesting to watch the buzz between the two parties.
- As of Friday afternoon, West Virginia quarterback Will Grier’s only formal interview had been with the Jags, per Philip Heilman of the Florida Times-Union. However, the former Gator revealed that he had five scheduled for later in the evening.
- Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the league’s salary cap will be set at $188.2 million this season
Thursday’s tidbits
- The Athletic’s Daniel Popper revealed that the Jags met with running backs Miles Sanders (Penn State), Jordan Scarlett (Florida) and Tony Pollard (Memphis) at some point this week.
- The quarterbacks from the 2019 NFL Draft all had their measurements recorded — and the most heavily anticipated prospect, Kyler Murray, measured in at 5-foot-10, 207-pounds. Additionally, his hands were measured in at 9 1/2 inches.
Wednesday’s tidbits
- The Jaguars announced that nose tackle Marcell Dareus would be returning after he went to the team and asked for a restructured deal. The transaction freed up $5 million in cap space.
- Jags coach Doug Marrone and general manager Dave Caldwell took the podium and spoke on the teams outlook for 2019. Their interviews can be seen below.
- Caldwell told the media that the door was open for tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins to return despite the team not picking up his option.
- The Jags announced that they picked up cornerback Jalen Ramsey’s fifth-year option. The move will make him a Jaguar at least throughout the 2020 season.
- The Eagles announced that they wouldn’t be franchising quarterback Nick Foles, which will make him a free agent come March.
