The next player on our list of Mountain West football’s 52 best players is Nevada offensive tackle Jake Nelson, who checks in at #50 as the biggest reason why the Union should remain strong this fall.
In his second full season as a starter on the offensive line, Nelson quietly became one of the best left tackles in the Mountain West, anchoring a unit that ranked 10th nationally by Bill Connelly‘s Adjusted Sack Rate metric. Pro Football Focus also graded him as the second-best pass-blocking tackle in the conference.
For his efforts, Nelson earned an all-Mountain West honorable mention in 2018 and has already been dubbed a first-team all-conference selection by multiple publications this preseason. Despite the fact that Nevada must replace its quarterback, whoever ends up under center should feel good about their blindside.
