The next player on our list of Mountain West football’s 52 best players is San Jose State linebacker Ethan Aguayo at #49, after a year in which he proved himself a worthy successor to Keith Smith, Christian Tago, and Frank Ginda.
He was the only SJSU defender to reach triple-digit tackles, finishing sixth in the Mountain West with 106 in all, and also chipped in with four tackles for loss, five passes defended, and an interception. Additionally, Pro Football Focus touted that Aguayo finished with the third-most defensive stops among conference linebackers as well as the third-best passer rating.
If the Spartans take a step forward and make some more noise in the West division this fall, don’t be surprised if Aguayo is a significant reason why.
