In case you wondered who the next great San Diego State linebacker might be last fall, Kyahva Tezino left no doubt as to the answer after an explosive performance which launched him to #4 on our countdown of the Mountain West’s best athletes in 2019.
Tezino announced his presence as one of the conference’s most disruptive defenders on a weekly basis, finishing the year with 8.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. He also finished fourth in the Mountain West 127 total tackles, anchoring a unit that led the conference with just 2.98 yards per carry allowed and finished fourth by opponents’ passer rating.
Even with new athletes stepping up on the defense line and in the secondary, Tezino’s presence in the middle of the defense will almost certainly continue to present a challenge to offensive coordinators around the Mountain West.
