The running Rebels should remain strong.
Lexington Thomas got much of the workload for the surprisingly explosive UNLV rushing attack over the past couple of seasons, but Charles Williams, who checks in at #32 on our list of Mountain West football’s best, has shown enough in limited playing time that foes shouldn’t expect that running game to be any less tough in 2019.
Williams started his UNLV career by breaking the program record for rushing yards by a freshman running back, earning 763 yards at 5.4 yards per carry, before missing nearly all of 2017 with an injury (and even then, he had 93 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries against Howard). With a clean health slate in 2018, he bounced back with 65 carries for 332 yards, contributing a 47.7% Success Rate and 58.5% Opportunity Rate in that sample.
Now that Thomas, Xzaviar Campbell, and Evan Owens have moved on, Williams is in position to shoulder a much larger share of the responsibility and could very well be the next Rebel runner to crack the all-conference list.
