It’s no easy feat to make our list of the Mountain West’s top football athletes without leading one’s team in rushing yards, but Gerold Bright, checking in at #24, had a performance which was too good to overlook.
Part of a running back tandem with Darwin Thompson, Bright did more than enough in his junior season to help anchor a ground game that finished with a conference best 5.5 yards per carry. He averaged 91.1 all-purpose yards per game in 2018, rushing for 888 yards at 6.3 YPC while grabbing 22-of-25 targets for an 88% catch rate, and scored 13 total touchdowns.
With Thompson’s departure to the professional ranks, Bright will be counted upon to do more alongside Jordan Love. If last year was any indication, however, he’s going to be up to the challenge.
