DETROIT _ Ford Motor Co. recalled about 2,700 of its brand new 2019 Lincoln Nautilus luxury SUVs on Wednesday because steering control technology may not work, which could increase the risk of crash.
The company said that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries.
A strong selling point for the Lincoln Nautilus, which costs about $40,000, has been the lane-centering assist and adaptive front steering. But the vehicles may not adequately detect whether a driver has his or her hands off the steering wheel, which has led to this recall.
If the system fails, the car may not alert the driver to place his or her hands back on the steering wheel, which could increase the risk of a crash.
The recall affects approximately 2,700 Lincoln Nautilus vehicles in North America, including 2,276 in the United States and federalized territories and 371 in Canada.
Affected 2019 Lincoln Nautilus vehicles were built at Oakville Assembly Plant, Sept. 5, 2018, to Nov. 19, 2018.
Dealers will update the power steering control module software in affected vehicles, Ford said. The reference number for this recall is 19S02.
This is not the first recall involving the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus.
In November, Ford recalled about 271 Nautilus vehicles to replace driver airbag modules that may have improperly injection-molded plastic covers that could separate during deployment, increasing risk of injury in a crash.
