2019 Honda Classic Final Round Live Blog: Keith Mitchell wins by 1 shot

Keith Mitchell spoiled the party Sunday.

He beat Rickie Fowler and Brooks Koepka by a shot to win the 2019 Honda Classic Sunday at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Rickie Fowler would rally to finish tied with Koepka at 8-under as well, setting up a potential playoff.

But Mitchell had other plans and won it with a birdie on the final hole of the tournament.

Ryan Palmer entered the clubhouse early Sunday with the 72-hole lead at 7-under par. He would eventually be joined by as many as six players at one point, including Koepka and Vijay Singh.

Koepka safely navigated his way through the “Bear Trap” and make his move with a birdie on the par-4 16th hole before closing out his Sunday round with a 3-foot, 9-inch birdie putt on the par-5 18th.

Wyndham Clark had taken two-shot advantage at 9-under par overall with 12 holes to go, but his lead soon would disappear.

The 56-year-old Singh shot a 5-under 65 Saturday and was hoping to become the oldest winner in PGA Tour history.

Singh won this event 20 years ago. He last won on the PGA Tour in 2008, when he won three times.

Sam Snead holds the title of oldest PGA Tour winner when he won the Wyndham Championship – formerly the Greater Greensboro Open – in 1965 when he was 52.
