As electric cars continue their slow journey in Thailand, Chevrolet and Mazda are previewing relevant convention that can be had later this year.

MG eZS
MG is showing an all-electric version of the ZS compact SUV that is set to go on sale in Thailand by mid-year. The powertrain is expected to produce 150hp, while driving range is claimed at over 400km under the NEDC mode. Unlike the Nissan Leaf hatchback, the ZS has a more popular body style and is hoped to be cheaper at around 1.5 million baht.

Chevrolet Captiva
The second-gen Captiva from Chevrolet is the newest production-ready vehicle on show. Due for sale after mid-year with prices starting from under one million baht, the Captiva is based on China’s Baojun 530 and Indonesia’s Wuling Almaz SUVs. The expected drivetrain for Thailand is 1.5-litre petrol-turbo and six-speed automatic gearbox. Both five- and seven-seat forms will be offered.

Mazda Kai
The Kai concept car is the source of inspiration of Mazda’s next-gen 3, which has already been launched in the US but not in Thailand yet. A technical highlight is a new 2.0-litre petrol engine coupled with mild hybrid tech. A sedan body style also joins the hatch when Thai sales get underway later this year with a projected price range of 850,000 to 1.2 million baht.
