2018 Honda HR-V facelift includes new RS trim

Popular B-segment SUV gets a nip and tuck, although no hybrid option is available for Thai buyers to choose from.

Honda Automobiles has revealed pricing and specs for its facelifted HR-V before hitting Thai showrooms on July 8.

Changes for one of the market’s most popular B-segment SUVs include redesigned bumpers, lights and front grille.

Available for the first time in the HR-V is the RS trim, which can now be found in other models like the Civic, Jazz and Mobilio.

As seen in these accompanying pictures, the HR-V fashioned in RS is distinguished with black side-view mirrors and door handles, plus bespoke 17-inch wheels.

The Thai Honda office has also added more features to the updated HR-V including blind-spot recognition and automatic braking at city speeds.

The sole engine on offer is like before: an E85-friendly 141hp 1.8-litre petrol unit mated to CVT automatic.

There are three trims to choose from: E with four airbags costing 949,000 baht and EL and RS with six airbags going for 1.059 and 1.199 million baht respectively.

The HR’s chief rival is the Toyota C-HR 1.8, which is priced at 979,000 baht in Entry spec and 1.039 million baht in Mid form. Both get seven airbags as standard and 140hp 1.8-litre petrol motor, CVT auto and E85 compatibility.

Although the HR-V has a petrol-electric hybrid option in Japan, it isn’t being considered for the Thai market at the moment leaving the C-HR as the only SUV in its class to have a hybrid to choose from.

The Mazda CX-3, meanwhile, will soon be facelifted in Thailand. Already seen in some other global markets, the revised CX-3 receives a tweaked face, new console design to accommodate an electronic parking brake and modified chassis to improve ride comfort.
