Flooding in 22 provinces has claimed nine lives and affected 121,217 households over the past fortnight, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

DDPM director-general Chayapol Thitisak said flash floods, overflow and accelerated water discharge by the Chao Phraya barrage dam from Oct 10 to Wednesday has swamped 76 districts of 22 provinces.

A total of 121,217 households in 2,673 villages were affected by the floods, he said.

Of the 22 deluge-ravaged provinces, flooding in Kamphaeng Phet, Loei and Phetchabun has eased.

The other 19 provinces are:  Tak, Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Phichit, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Sing Buri, Lop Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Chai Nat, Suphan Buri, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi Et and Ubon Ratchathani.

The DDPM, Mr Chayapol said, is coordinating with provincial, local administrative bodies and the military to fully assist the flood-stricken residents.

This included deployment of water pumps and propeller-pump boats to help divert water from the flooded areas into major waterways, he said.
