A Lego picture of Rupert Murdoch being hit by a cream pie by Jim Walshe inspired us to seek out other creative Flickr members to reimagine 2011's news events in Lego.
Now our gallery has prompted others to turn their hands to telling the news in bricks. Sandra Nightingale, a learning mentor at Birkdale High School in Southport, sent us this Lego scene of the UK public sector strike on 30 November, created with a group of year 9 pupils. The strike was chosen as the subject of the Lego scene as it caused the school to close for the day.
"The boys are huge Lego fans and after I saw your Lego news depictions I knew the boys would love to create a scene. The boys enjoyed this so much that as of next year we plan to recreate topical news events on a regular basis," said Sandra in her email.
Thanks to Sandra and students Jake Hopkins, Max Nevins and Ben Jones Ennis for sharing their work.
If you've been inspired by the Lego news events gallery, share your creation with our Flickr group or send an email to community.coordinators@guardian.co.uk.
