'200' people turned up to an 18th birthday party at an Airbnb - it turned into a 'riot'

Snapchat footage shows people partying at an Airbnb property where 18th birthday celebrations turned into 'a riot'.

Police were attacked as they tried to shut the rowdy gathering down on Good Friday (April 19).

Snapchat video circulating on social media shows people drinking and dancing at a party on Delamere Street, Levenshulme, with '18' balloons in the background.

A similar balloon was found by the owner of the house as he cleared the wreckage on Saturday morning.

People living on the street said their 'windows were shaking' as the party spilled into the street. They said a few people were seen listening to music in the garden before the gathering 'spiralled out of control'.

Nitrous oxide canisters littered the pavement the next morning.

The owner of the trashed house said he was 'devastated'. He spent the morning assessing the damage and tidying up.

He found a TV thrown behind a bed and broken crockery dumped in the street. The front gate and fence were smashed and the floors and walls were 'filthy'.

The man, who asked not to be named, said he arrived at around 9.30pm, having been called by a concerned neighbour, and asked those inside to go home.

He said they agreed to shut the party down, but it started up again at around 11.30pm. Residents said the noise continued until around 4am.

“It’s just disappointing this sort of thing has happened," the man told the Manchester Evening News.

“It’s a residential area. It’s not what this house is for. It’s states that clearly in the terms and conditions. There were just lots of people making a racket.

"I think it was a Facebook party. I’m devastated.

A neighbour told the M.E.N: “The noise... it was more than noise, it was more like a riot.

"To start with, it was just a few people playing music around the back and it just escalated. The neighbour’s windows were shaking the noise was that bad.

"I’m a bit traumatised by it. We’ve been round here for years and there’s never been any mither.

"I’d say there were at least 200 people. I’ve never seen the street so full. It’s usually pretty peaceful."

Another resident said: "I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. It was pretty frightening, wondering if your windows were going to go through. They were even sitting on our car.

"We’ve seen the owner this morning and he couldn’t apologise enough. He’s a nice guy. There’s been no trouble before.”

Police are trawling CCTV and have asked people at the party to come forward.

DC Chris Henderson, from GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “Not only had the party-goers duped the home owner, the party got out of hand, they terrified local residents in their own homes, then reacted with violence towards police officers when they attempted to clear the party.

“This behaviour is simply unacceptable.

“We are currently investigating crimes of violent disorder and will be reviewing CCTV to identify those involved.

“We would like to hear from anyone who has any information that can help police as we attempt to bring those responsible to justice."

An Airbnb spokeswoman said: "We have zero tolerance for this type of behaviour, have removed the guest from our platform and are providing the host with our full support.

"There have been over half a billion guest arrivals on Airbnb and, with two million people staying on Airbnb on any given night, incidents like this are incredibly rare.”
