BENGALURU: A police team scanned footage from 200 CCTV cameras over 20 days before laying their hands on a person, who had driven away a tractor in the second week of March to his hometown in Andhra Pradesh.
The accused, Shekhar alias Shekhar, had driven over 210km from Bandepalya, southeast Bengaluru, to Pulivendula, his village in Andhra Pradesh. According to police, Shekhar had stolen the tractor owned by HR Shantaraj from Hosapalya on March 1. Shantaraj said he had parked the vehicle outside his house.
Police, who were clueless in the beginning, started collecting CCTV footage from surrounding areas. “We collected grabs from Bandepalya, KR Puram, Hebbal and Devanahalli, which showed a person driving the tractor towards Andhra Pradesh. We reached Bagepalli and collected more images. There, we found the tractor was driven towards Pulivendula,” an officer said.
On reaching Pulivendula, cops discovered a local farmer was using the tractor. On questioning, the farmer told police Shekhar had rented him the vehicle.
“We arrested Shekhar and brought back the tractor. Shekhar worked as a truck driver in different parts of the city and decided to steal the tractor to earn more. We are checking his antecedents to know if he was involved in other crimes,” police added.
