The government is making arrangements to pay 200,000 yen per day to large commercial facilities and relevant entities that comply with requests from prefectural governors to close, according to the outline of additional economic support measures to be implemented under the planned state of emergency, which was to be confirmed on Friday.
Arrangements are also being made to provide up to 200,000 yen per month to small and midsize companies whose sales have dropped by half compared with before the pandemic.
To enhance the effectiveness of the state of emergency, the government hopes to increase the number of department stores and other stores that comply with closure requests by offering cooperation money, as such businesses are likely to suffer greater losses if they close during the Golden Week holiday period.
