Fantastic Fest is finally happening! The beloved genre festival is celebrating 20 years and we’ve been shouting out all the women who have made it something special. For our final installment, we get two for the price of one with Jen and Sylvia Soska aka the Soska Sisters.
Jen and Sylvia Soska are twin filmmakers who specialize in horror movies and they attended Fantastic Fest for the first time back in 2012 for their film, American Mary. That same year, the duo joined the Fantastic Debates and were dressed up as Mortal Kombat characters Kitana and Mileena before the two challenged each other in the ring.
One of the best parts about doing this series has been seeing how many women stepped up to partake in the Fantastic Debates. The boxing competition is a fun way to engage with the festival but it is also still a boxing match. And to see the amount of women who trained and wanted to be a part of it is so amazing. And getting to do that with your sister has to be so much fun!
Now, we’re heading into an entirely new year of movies, activities, and parties to all go to together and that’s what makes the trip to Austin so worth it. We’re seeing amazing movies and getting to hang out with each other and I cannot wait to see what other amazing women are going to be added to our list at this year’s festivities.
You can celebrate all the women who have made Fantastic Fest special for the last 20 years as we head into the festival and it is a great time to see some great genre films! And it helps that all these women and so many more have made this one of the best festivals around.
