When you’re a horror queen like Barbara Crampton, it is no surprise that festivals like Fantastic Fest welcome you with open arms. And rightfully so! Crampton is a legend for a reason and we’re excited to celebrate the iconic final girl for 20 years of Fantastic Fest women!
Crampton has, in the words of those behind the festival, been a staple of Fantastic Fest. Meaning that she’s not just a one time attendee of the festival but even attended years when she didn’t have films there. That’s kind of amazing! But that’s why she’s one of the legends of this space, she loves the fans and the genre and it shows.
In the official release from the team behind Fantastic Fest, they shared their love for Crampton and her dedication not only to the festival itself but her work in genre films. “Genre legend Barbara Crampton is a fixture at Fantastic Fest,” the caption reads. “She graces the festival with her presence whenever her schedule allows, and it’s always a special treat!”
Recently, Crampton was in the film Suitable Flesh that brought back a campy kind of horror film and shows that while she has a long history of making great horror films, Crampton also knows exactly what fans want out of the genre. Look, sometimes, you just want to watch a fun, weird horror movie and that’s what makes her filmography so special.
From the 1985 film Re-Animator to The Sisterhood, The Divine Tragedies, and more, Crampton has always been an icon and so it is a joy to celebrate her along with all of the amazing women who have made Fantastic Fest special. 20 years is a huge celebration and keep checking back here at the Mary Sue for more women who have made the festival something to remember.
