20 things public transport passengers do that infuriates commuters

Travelling via public transport has it plus points, whether that's financial or time effectiveness.

But, by its very name, it means you had to deal with other people and their annoying habits.

When you're on the way to work the last thing you want is for someone to make your journey worse, but there are plenty of behaviours that infuriate commuters.

From eating smelly food to taking up more than one seat - what frustrates you the most?

Fragrance Direct surveyed 2,000 commuters to find out what grinds their gears the most.

The top 20 commuter crimes 

(And the percentage of people surveyed that were offended by each action) 

1. Farting - 75 per cent 

2. Picking your nose - 73 per cent 

3. Talking loudly on the phone - 71 per cent 

4. Swearing - 69 per cent 

5. Taking up more than one seat - 68 per cent

6. Blocking the isle with large luggage - 68 per cent 

7. Playing loud music through headphones - 66 per cent 

8. Putting your bag on a free seat - 57 per cent 

9. Manspreading - 55 per cent 

10. Drinking alcohol - 52 per cent 

11. Spraying hairspray - 52 per cent 

12. Plucking eyebrows or nose hair - 52 per cent

13. Spraying deodorant or perfume - 46 per cent

14. Eating fast food - 40 per cent 

15. Wearing rollers - 33 per cent 

16. Straightening hair - 31 per cent 

17. Painting or filing nails - 31 per cent

18. Brushing hair - 24 per cent 

19. Applying make-up - 24 per cent 

20. Eating crisps - 22 per cent

The survey also found that one third of women have encountered a rude comment from another passenger.  

More than 80 per cent said they felt embarrassed when they apply make-up on public transport.
