22 new COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Hunter New England

Another 22 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in the Hunter New England Local Health District.

There has now been 189 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Hunter New England.

Of the district cases, 150 were acquired overseas, 25 were locally acquired from contact with a confirmed case, 11 were acquired locally but from an unknown contact and three remain under investigation.

Eight COVID-19 patients are being cared for in hospitals, including five in intensive care units.

Two patients have recovered.

Health authorities have conducted 8328 tests in the district, with 2.25 per cent of those returning positive.

The latest update comes after 25 new cases were confirmed on Saturday, eight of which had links to the Ruby Princess and Ovation of the Seas cruise ships.
