20 most rewatched movies of all time revealed by Now TV

We've all been in that position before, where we're flicking through a streaming app trying to find the right show or movie to watch - only to settle on watching something we've already seen at least a dozen times before.

Rewatching things is becoming more and more common for TV users, as access to our favourite shows and films is made easier.

Now, a new study, conducted by Now TV, has revealed some of the nation's most interesting TV and film viewing habits.

The study revealed that Die Hard, Dirty Dancing and The Wizard of Oz have topped the list of the most rewatched movies of all time, with the average UK adult having seen them 12 times each, according to a new report released today into the nation’s TV viewing habits.

The study also showed that people from the UK have also viewed Star Wars movies - The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and A New Hope - a whopping 11 times each so far in their lifetime.

The study also showed that people had watched The Sound of Music ten times, the same number as cult eighties classic, The Breakfast Club, and Disney’s animated epic The Lion King.

Findings of the report reveal the average British adult has seen their TV viewing rocket by 58% per week since lockdown began – equalling 39 days per year spent solely watching box sets, films and programmes.

According to the study by streaming service NOW TV, 22% have been hiding away in the bathroom to watch their favourite shows over the past few months, whilst 7% have pretended to be on a “work zoom call” but were actually watching a classic movie.

The new study of 2,000 adults by NOW TV revealed that we're going to great lengths to secretly indulge in their favourite shows, including tuning in on the toilet and bingeing box sets in the bath.

On average we spend 3 and a half hours a month watching TV in the suds, meanwhile a cheeky quarter of us (25%) are tuning in on the toilet and 1 in 10 (9%) are even streaming whilst in the shower. Of those surveyed Jaws tops the list of movies most watched by bathtime bingers.

Almost a third (29%) of those surveyed say the battle for the TV remote has been at an all-time high under lockdown, with the country spending on average a whole two and a half hours a week arguing with family members about what to watch.

Finding sanctuary away from the sofa, new research found that a quarter of us (25%) have been forced to abandon the living room and convert other rooms in the house into TV viewing watches spaces.

Marina Storti, NOW TV’s Managing Director, said:  “It’s clear to see that as a nation, we find watching our favourite films and TV shows to be the ultimate comfort blanket in times of worry and anxiety. There’s nothing like an old classic to make us feel nostalgic and eased, so it’s not surprising we’ve been enjoying re-watching our favourites, even in the bathtub.”

The survey shows as many as 67% of Brits have been using their time in lockdown to re-watch their favourite films and TV shows.

79% claim rewatching films and TV shows makes them feel nostalgic and comforted, while 36% say it helps them forget about their worries and anxieties.

17% admit they have enjoyed watching classic shows and movies together as a family during lockdown.
