MOTORISTS have been advised to expect significant delays at the end of the M1 Motorway on Friday as northbound traffic pours through the region.

Drivers have been warned that the heavy traffic conditions are unlikely to abate until January 7 and to allow extra travel time.

The 20-minute delays at the John Renshaw Drive intersection shortly before 10am were the longest in the state.

Drivers are urged to add an extra 15 minutes heading south through Milton along the Princes Highway and another 10 minutes at Ulladulla approaching Parson Street.

In Nowra, moderate southbound traffic is adding about five minutes to trips.

Hexham flared on Boxing Day, adding about five minutes to trips as travellers hit the road after Christmas Day.

Double demerits remain in place until January 2.
