20,000 left without water after pipe bursts in Nottingham

More than 20,000 people were left without water after a large pipe burst in Nottingham.

Some residents claimed they head a “big bang”, when the pipe ruptured in the early hours of the morning, according to the BBC

The rising waters led to a driver sliding into a sinkhole after a road collapsed.

Properties in Radcliffe-on-Trent, East Bridgford, Bingham, Upper Saxondale and Flintham were all affected.

Severn Trent Water released a statement saying it was working hard to get the situation resolved.

“Due to the size of the water pipe affected, a lot of villages and towns in the area have been affected by the issue and left without water," it said.

“While our teams work to fix the burst, we’re also looking at other ways to get water to you and so you may notice our teams working in the area.

“We’re also contacting some of our most vulnerable customers to see what we can do to help them.”

Severn Trent Water added it would take several hours before the water supply was fully restored.
