GHAZIABAD: A two-year-old boy, who had slipped into a five-foot-deep drain near his house in Niwari Kasba of Modinagar, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Meerut for two days, police said.
This is the second such incident in the city in the last 15 days. On November 28, a five-year-old child had died after he fell into a drain in the Muradnagar area.
According to police, the child, Luvkush, was playing with his sister and a few other children around 4 pm on Sunday when he fell into the drain behind the house. Local residents rescued the child and rushed him to a nearby private hospital from where he was referred to a private hospital in Meerut for treatment. On Tuesday evening, the child succumbed to his injuries.
Station house officer of Niwari police Manoj Kumar said that the child’s father, Sonu Prajapati, was a labourer. The family, he said, had not submitted any complaint so far and also refused for the post mortem. The primary probe indicated that it was an accident, he added.
On November 28, a five-year-old Arham had died after he allegedly fell into a drain while playing outside his house in the Muradnagar area. His family had alleged that the Muradnagar Nagar Palika Parishad had neither cleaned the drain nor covered it for over a year leading to the incident. The administration has recommended a compensation of Rs 4 lakh from the National Disaster Relief Fund for the next kin of the child after the family had staged a protest. The district administration also assured Rs 1-lakh compensation to the family.
Earlier, on September 27, a 10-month-old girl fell into a six-foot-deep drain adjacent to the Hindon flyover in the Kaushambi area and died. Sanoj Kumar, a labourer from Bihar’s Vaishali, had a fight with his wife Rama around 10.45 pm at their house in Bhowapur village, following which he took their daughter Jyoti and headed for his friend’s place in Sector 62. Rama had started following them and requested Sanoj to return Jyoti to her. When the couple reached Hindon flyover near UP Gate, a heated argument broke out during which the child fell into the drain.
