Sun-Times file photo

Two men were wounded Tuesday when a passenger opened fire on his driver in Fernwood on the South Side.

One man was sitting in his parked car at 7:40 p.m. when his backseat passenger pulled out a weapon, Chicago police said.

The 21-year-old driver exited the vehicle and was running down the street when he was struck multiple times by gunfire in the 10200 block of South Perry, police said.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm, police said.

Another man, also 21, was struck by the gunfire as he stood in a nearby alley, police said. He was being treated at the same hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg. His condition had stabilized.

Officers recovered a weapon from the scene, police said.

Detectives were looking for two people of interest.
