Man running red light crashes into sedan, seriously injures 2 teens in Sauganash

Two teenage boys were listed in serious to critical condition after a man running a red light crashed into their vehicle Saturday night in Sauganash on the Northwest Side.

Just before 7:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man driving a Honda west near the intersection of Peterson and Kostner Avenue ran a red light and struck a Chevy Malibu traveling north, according to Chicago police and fire officials.

A 17-year-old boy driving the Chevy and a 16-year-old boy riding as his passenger were both transported to St. Francis Health Center in serious to critical condition, fire officials said.

The man driving the Honda suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention, according to police.

At the scene, both vehicles sat crashed into a light post on the corner, causing the structure to bend slightly. The front of the Chevy also struck the front fence of a nearby home.

Citations are pending, according to police.
