Every season the NFL pays out performance-based bonuses for players who far outplayed their current contract. The Pittsburgh Steelers landed two players on this year’s list, with both in the top nine.
Coming in at No. 7 is guard Kevin Dotson. Dotson started 17 games at left guard last season. It was far from his best season and the addition of Nate Herbig likely means Dotson won’t start this season. Nevertheless, 17 starts with a base salary of $825,000 means Dotson qualified for $746,013 in performance-based pay.
Just behind Dotson at No. 9 is left tackle Dan Moore Jr. Another guy in danger of losing his starting job this season, Moore played well enough to earn $739,072 on top of his $895,000 base salary. Moore started all 17 games last season at left tackle but struggled with penalties.
