Dec. 23--Two South Side men have been charged in a September shooting that killed a man and wounded another in front of a West Loop neighborhood lounge.
Deangelo Green, 31, and Andre Harris, 32, were both charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, police said.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sept 6., two 23-year-old men were standing in front of Red Kiva in the 1100 block of West Randolph Street. Police said Green and Harris approached the two and fired shots.
One of the victims, who was identified earlier as Lavell Southern, of the 8800 block of South Bennett Avenue, suffered wounds to the head and back. He was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The other victim was shot in the shoulder and was taken to the same hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said at the time.
Green was arrested on the murder charge Monday in Cook County Jail, where he was in custody on an unrelated marijuana charge. He was originally arrested on a criminal trespass to vehicle charge Oct. 12 in the 7100 block of South Damen Avenue and charged the next day with felony drug possession, according to police and court records.
Harris was arrested on the South Side the same day as the shooting, police said.
Harris, of the 7100 block of South Morgan Street, appeared Sept. 8 at a court hearing where he was denied bail. Green, of the 7100 block of South Seeley Avenue, is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.
