Two 19-year-old passengers were seriously injured in a two-car crash Wednesday in west suburban Naperville.

A 51-year-old Naperville man driving a Honda Accord west on 12th Avenue failed to yield at a stop sign at Washington Street, Naperville police said in a statement.

He struck a Ford Focus in the intersection about 7:26 p.m., causing the Focus to lose control and hit a utility pole, police said.

A male and female passenger of the Focus were taken to hospitals with potentially life-threatening injuries, police said. The conditions of the drivers were not released.

The driver of the Accord was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Washington Street was closed until 11:37 p.m. between Ogden Avenue and Bauer Road for an investigation.
