CHANDIGARH: Manimajra will soon have two underground water reservoirs (UGRs) for which the urban planning department of Chandigarh administration has approved land. Both UGRs are crucial components of the 24X7 water supply pilot project which is going on in Manimajra at an approximate cost of Rs 160 crore.
The project is being monitored by Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL). Both the UGRs will have 2 MGD (million-gallon capacity) per day.
They will first get water from the Sector 26 based water works, after which they will feed residents of Manimajra.
“Both the UGRs are crucial parts of the 24X7 pilot project and only earmarking of land was with the Chandigarh administration for consideration. We have already prepared the drawing, design and related paper works for the UGRs. Therefore, the work will not take any time at all and the process of construction will be started soon as per laid down parameters,” sources said.
The hired contractor has also installed over 600 new smart water meters in the area, which is also a major component of the project. “Installation of smart water meters and their testing is going on simultaneously. Officers concerned have been regularly checking works at the site too,” sources said.
The pilot project is worth Rs 160 crore and has two segments - capital work and installation of water meter.
