Two rank-and-file wrestlers shared the lead at 9-1 on the 10th day of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament at the Ryogoku Kokugikan hall in Tokyo on Tuesday.

No. 4 maegashira Shodai pushed out No. 7 maegashira Shohozan (5-5), while No. 17 maegashira Tokushoryu took down No. 12 maegashira Chiyomaru (4-6).

Ozeki Takakeisho earned his kachikoshi eighth win after beating crowd-favorite No. 5 maegashira Enho (5-5), using effective shoves to evade the diminutive wrestler's grasp.

In addition to Takakeisho, two other wrestlers are close behind the tournament leaders at 8-2, No. 9 maegashira Yutakayama and No. 11 maegashira Kagayaki.

Ozeki Goeido, who is under kadoban status and needs at least eight wins to keep his rank, suffered his seventh loss when No. 6 maegashira Takarafuji (5-5) shoved the struggling ozeki out of the ring.

Meanwhile, No. 2 maegashira Mitakeumi (6-4) overcame No. 1 maegashira Endo (6-4), who suffered his third consecutive loss.
