April 06--Steppenwolf for Young Adults (SYA) has announced its 2016-17 season featuring two world-premiere plays, both responses to gun violence in America.
First is Caitlin Parrish's new play "The Burials" (Oct. 5-Oct. 22) in the Upstairs Theater. Erica Weiss will direct the "Antigone"-inspired drama about the upended life of a young millennial after her brother carries out a mass shooting.
Walter Dean Myers' New York Times best-seller "Monster" (Feb. 15-March 9) follows, in an adaptation by Aaron Carter in the Downstairs Theater. SYA artistic director Hallie Gordon will direct the story, told in the form of a screenplay, about a 16-year-old who faces a life behind bars after a robbery goes wrong.
