2 Panthers cuts find new homes with Seahawks, Dolphins

The Carolina Panthers won’t be getting their choice of practice squad players from the pool of the 25 men they cut yesterday.

Per the league’s transaction wire, 33 players were claimed off waivers by teams on Wednesday. And just one of those players came from Carolina—defensive end Darryl Johnson.

Johnson is now headed over to the Seattle Seahawks, the old home of current Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer. Apparently, the Seahawks were just about in line with Fitterer—who traded for Johnson exactly one year and one day ago.

The 6-foot-6, 262-pounder played in three games for the team in 2021. He registered a single tackle over those appearances.

Also on the way out is cornerback Kalon Barnes, who will—per Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network—be signing on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad. He, like Johnson, was waived on Tuesday.

Barnes was a seventh-round pick by the Panthers this past spring. He recorded the fastest 40-yard dash time at the 2022 combine, clocking in at 4.23 seconds.
