2 more coronavirus deaths confirmed at Nottingham hospitals as cases increase

Two more patients have died in Nottingham's hospitals as a result of coronavirus as the number of cases across the county increases.

The patients, aged 75 and 67, both had underlying health conditions, according to Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.

Five people tested positive for Covid-19 have now died across the city and county.

Dr Keith Girling, Medical Director for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a further two patients who were being cared for at our hospitals have died. Both patients had tested positive for Covid-19.

“The fourth patient, 75, had an underlying health condition and died on Tuesday, March 3.

"The positive test results were returned on Monday 16 March. Her family has subsequently been informed.”

“The fifth patient, 67, also had an underlying health condition, died on Wednesday, March 18. His family has been informed.”

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to both families at this difficult and distressing time.”

“We continue to follow all of the appropriate infection control guidance to provide safe and effective care to our patients.

"Patients with appointments should still attend as normal unless they have a new and continuous cough or a temperature in which case they should contact the telephone number on their appointment letter for further advice.”

Today (March 21) there have been four more confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nottinghamshire taking the total to 45, there have been no new confirmed cases in the city, where the number of confirmed cases stands at 22.

Nationally, more than 5,000 people have now been diagnosed with the virus. 233 people have died.
