MIAMI _ Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, responding to a car accident Monday afternoon, found a man and a woman "incoherent" and an infant unharmed in the back seat.
Few details were available, but Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said the 2-month-old infant was being taken care of at Station 5 on the same corner where the accident occurred in Miami's Allapattah neighborhood.
The parents were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in an unconscious or incoherent state, said Miami Police spokeswoman Yelitza Cedano.
"They found the baby in the back seat. The baby is OK," she said.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. It was unclear if any other vehicles were involved.
The initial information on the accident sent out on the Miami police department's Twitter site created a tizzy on social media.
Just after 4 p.m., Miami police tweeted, "@MiamiPD responded to accident at NW 12th Av and 20th St. 2 month old baby found w/parents unconscious, poss. OD on heroin."
Later, police wouldn't confirm that was the case.
Miami Police spokesman Freddie Cruz said that it was a minor accident with no injuries.
"It could be drugs; it could be food poisoning. We don't know," he said.
Cruz said the infant is now in custody of a guardian, and the Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating.
Oddly, the tweet matched a recent situation in Ohio that was reported by national news outlets and went viral. East Liverpool police decided to post photos on its Facebook page of a woman and a man passed out in the front seat of a car with a 4-year-old in a baby seat in the back, seemingly oblivious to what had happened.
Police said the couple overdosed on heroin and the picture was posted to shed light on the situation in Ohio.
