2 men wounded in Garfield Park shooting

Chicago police investigate the scene where two men were shot Sept. 14, 2019 in the 3900 block of West Jackson Boulevard. | Tyler LaRiviere/Sun-Times

Two people were shot Saturday in Garfield Park on the West Side.

A 22-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle about 1:25 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Jackson Boulevard when two males got out of a silver-colored Hyundai Sonata and approached him, Chicago police said. At least one of the males fired shots, striking the man in the leg.

Another man, 33, who was standing nearby on a sidewalk was hit in the chest, police said. The two men don’t appear to know each other, but the older man may have been caught in the gunfire.

They drove to a nearby police station to call for help. Both men had their conditions stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

A silver-colored vehicle with several apparent bullet holes on the driver’s side sat outside the station.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
