2 men sought who tried to lure kids with candy, ride home in Irving Park

Jan. 24--Authorities are looking for two men who tried to lure a boy and a girl into their car by offering them candy and a ride home Tuesday afternoon in the Irving Park neighborhood, police said.

The kids, a 10-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl, were walking home from school in the 3900 block of North Spaulding Avenue about 3:15 p.m. when a man who was a passenger in a car started talking to them, according to police.

The man asked the kids to come over to the car and said he would give them a ride home or wherever they wanted to go, police said.

When the children did not respond, the man offered them candy and appeared as if he was going to get out of the car, police said. The children ran home and the car, which had two men inside, drove away.

The passenger was described as a middle-aged Hispanic man with black, partially balding hair and a mustache. He either had acne or freckles and was wearing a beige jacket.

The driver was also a middle-aged Hispanic man, with black hair and a mustache. He was wearing a black-colored hoodie with a white T-shirt under it, police said.

The suspects were in a dark green, four-door car with rust toward its rear and blue tape over one of the tail lights, police said.

Anyone with information should contact detectives at 312-744-8200.
