2 men shot overnight as Baltimore nears 300 homicides

BALTIMORE _ A 22-year-old man was shot in the back at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Less than two hours earlier, at about 8:22 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the knee, police said. Officers were called to a hospital, where the man had arrived seeking treatment. He told police the shooting followed a dispute with an unknown man in that block.

Detectives are investigating both incidents.

According to police, 299 people have been killed in Baltimore so far in 2016. There were 344 homicides reported in Baltimore in 2015 _ the first time the city had surpassed 300 since 1999.
