2 men facing weapons charges after Evanston shooting

April 03--Two men are facing weapons charges after they were found hiding inside two Evanston buildings after shots were fired Thursday afternoon in the northern suburb.

Officers responded shortly after 1:30 p.m. to the 300 block of Custer Avenue where a parked vehicle was discovered with three bullet holes shortly after gunfire was reported, according to Evanston police.

Callers who contacted 911 provided a description of a vehicle involved in the shooting and the responding officers were able to locate it. When they attempted to curb a vehicle matching that description in the south alley of the 600 block of Oakton Street, two passengers fled on foot, said police.

One of the passengers, Shawn L. Raymond, 22, was found hiding in a rear stairwell of an apartment building on the 400 block of Callan Avenue. A loaded .22 caliber North American Arms semi-automatic handgun was also found in the same area, said police.

The second passenger, Octavius Miles, 23, was found soon after hiding in an apartment on the 600 block of Hull Terrace. A loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun also was discovered inside that apartment.

Miles, of the 100 block of Clyde Avenue, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property. Raymond, of the 600 block of Hull Terrace, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and a parole violation warrant was issued against him, said police.
